Book Description excerpt from Wikipedia:
"The novel is based on four main characters: Hortense, Queenie, Gilbert and Bernard and the story is told from each of their points of view. Its main plot is set in 1948 and focuses on the diaspora of Jamaican immigrants, who, escaping economic hardship on their own "small island," move to England, the Mother Country, for which the men have fought during World War II. Their reception is not quite the warm embrace that they have hoped for. Some chapters skip to an earlier time as the characters describe the time when they were growing up."
Adapted for BBC television, 2009.
2004 - Orange Prize for Fiction
2004 - Whitbread Book of the Year
2005 - Commonwealth Writer's Prize

Reserving for loveamystery's Two Worlds Virtual Book Box.
What a good novel - kept me reading all the way through. Will be interested to see the BBC Version too.
Can't help wondering what happened to the Jamaicans mentioned who chose to go to Canada, instead of England.
Looking forward to reading more from Andrea Levy.
This book is now packed up and heading for Tasmania.

Thank you - book has arrived safely I am sure I will like it - not quite sure when I will squeeze it in - but somewhere in between book rings I hope(which continue to arrive - even thought I tried to pace my sign ups - it doesn't always work on the arrival side.)
