Sometimes when I am at a bookstore, I will just buy a book based on the cover. I saw this several times at Skylight and something compelled me to buy it. Usually this works out, but in the case of "The Rachel Papers" it was a big miss.

The book was dull and tedious. I felt like it tried to utilize value, loads of graphic sex...but it just came across as boring. One thing about the story, is it was very atmospheric. I did not know that it was written in the 1970's, until finishing the book, but the entire way through it felt like something that was from another era, rather than something current that was written about the 70's. It also felt like it would lend itself well to being made into an indy film.

Releasing at the Goodreads Book Swap at Book Soup on 5/22/10. I hope it find someone who will "Catch" it!

This is hilarious! My girlfriend and I attended the Goodreads book swap at Book Soup on Sunset Blvd on 05/22/2010 together. We both contributed books to the swap, although she contributed many more than I did. I tried to leave with the same number of books I contributed, but I ended up with one or two more than I started with (who can resist FREE BOOKS?!). The punchline: two of the books I took home were released by my girlfriend!! I swear I did not look inside the covers for bookcrossing IDs; I had no idea these were hers! This is one of them. I hope I like it better than she did. We are both pretty tough critics... ~mm
