She might not be to everyone's taste, no author is, but I enjoy Elizabeth Chadwick's Medieval adventures, which normally have a romantic theme although I prefer that aspect to be not too dominant, so I was very pleased to find a novel I'd not read in a charity shop this morning. I like her approach to writing history and depicting the past. The back cover says this one's based on a true story and takes place in 1177 during the reign of Henry II (actually it starts in 1173 and ends in 1199!)

Having read and enjoyed this author's two novels recounting the life of William Marshal, I was delighted to find him appearing and re-appearing in this story of the Bigod family. I thoroughly enjoyed it - a heart-warming, heart-tugging tale of love, hate and adventure in the 12th century.

A really good read that has seen me through several waiting rooms and kept me happy in a world far removed from Northampton General Hospital! It will probably be released at Salcey Forest Café on the BC shelves.
