Journal Entry 1 by Colombina from Wuppertal, Nordrhein-Westfalen Germany on Monday, January 18, 2010
A captivating dark book mixing the English coziness of a small town and two tea-drinking elderly ladies with a strange and ominous slightly gothic world in which nothing seems to be impossible. The story is about a mysterious woman, Brenda, who, after a long (a very long :-)) and eventful life, decided to settle in the small resort Whitby to run a B&B. Together with her friend Effie she is faced with a series of peculiar events like, for instance, the establishment of a satanic beauty salon and the visit of more-than-illegal aliens... Light reading, but entertaining.

The book's in Finland, thank you very much! I've been to Whitby a few times (I lived four years in England) and couldn't resist a book set there :D Thanks also for the beautiful postcard and bookmark!

Journal Entry 4 by Annimanni at Espoo, Uusimaa / Nyland Finland on Tuesday, August 9, 2011
Hah, this was a fun, enjoyable read - even though it's not my usual genre at all. I liked the characters and I loved reading a story set in Whitby. I could just see the town in my mind's eye. This is one of the best aspects of Bookcrossing: you end up reading books you'd never have picked up otherwise. Thanks, Colombina!

This book's story is set in Whitby. I enjoyed reading it. It is fun to recognise local landmarks in the text of a book.
Now it is going on a journey to another bookcrosser, for the 'Be proud of where you live exchange'.

15 March 2013: I received the book from Bjorg, together with some little nice Easter things. Thank you. The book looks strange but also interesting. So I will try to read it when I´m in the right mood.

14 January 2015: I finally was in the right mood to read it. A long time I didn´t dare to read it because of the spooky cover but then I finally had the motivation to read it. And I must say it was entertaining. I especially liked Brenda who tells the story in such a warm and good-hearted way. The end of the story was a nice surprise. I´m fascinated that the village Whitby really exists.
