dasaug gave me a copy of Fool by Christopher Moore for my birthday. Although a lot of people have told me it's not really necessary to know Lear in order to understand all the references and jokes in Fool, to me it would be like watching Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead without ever having read Hamlet (i.e. at least very hard to imagine). And I love Shakespeare, so having a copy can't hurt.
So when I got home from the hospital today (I had a tonsillectomy on Monday), the first thing I did was get this copy of Lear. Even before picking up my pain meds. Silly BookCrossers! ;)

Finished! This really wasn't a light read. But in the end it was worth it.
Still, my favourite parts were the insults, and Edgar playing the madman (calling on demons, quoting Childe Roland and everything). The joke about the play's historical inaccuracies (when the Fool says that Merlin will quote him) is nice too.
