"There is another 1985, somewhere in the could-have-been, where the Crimean war still rages, dodos are regenerated in home-cloning kits and everyone is deeply disappointed by the ending of 'Jane Eyre'. In this world there are no jet-liners or computers, but there are policemen who can travel across time, a Welsh republic, a great interest in all things literary - and a woman called Thursday Next."

This book was on my wish list for a long time and I finally bought it used from the Red Bus second hand bookstore in Budapest. Unfortunately the book was a bit of a disappointment, not because it wasn't good but because I had such high expectations of it, and in the end I didn't think it was quite all that after all. Make sure you've read Jane Eyre before you read this one, though!

I am a huge fan of Brontes and Jane Eyre is one of the best so I just had to grab this one!

Where should I begin. There's a lot going on in this book. Too much in my opinion. The time travelling aspect is quite interesting but there is just too abundant supply of other side plots in the novel for my taste. In the end some of the things are nevertheless quite funnily woven together. It's fun to read a book that is not to be taken so seriously. But then again some controversy is rising in me: Jane Eyre is a serious thing for me and how events finally occur is just too much. Tourists at Thornfield? Plasma rifles etc.? Hilarious but NO! I have to erase this reading experience before my next moment with the original Jane Eyre.

The idea is still really great!

I'm taking part on the Alphabetical challenge with this book. F stands for Fforde.

Also I'm taking part on a reading challenge called "Spark i baken" in the Scandinavian forum this being the fifth book.

Here he is, back from the trip to the North. Thank you very much Joika!

Just happened to find a graphic novel version of "Jane Eyre" in the library. That'll have to do...
