I've seriously tried to get through this book. I couldn't even say that it wasn't enjoyable or that it wasn't well-told... I just didn't have enough time and felt like reading on at the same time, so I'm giving up after a fairly long time of not even really trying and FINALLY send this on to the poor Rapturina that I've promised this book AGES ago. May you enjoy every second of it! :-)

It arrived here a few days ago, thank you so much! It will have to go straight to my TBR pile for now, but hopefully I will get to it soon. It looks very interesting!

7 out of 10

I finally got around to reading this a couple of weeks ago. I thought it was a very interesting read, though it was very clearly written towards a certain ending. I don't really know how to explain it properly, but it seems everything in the book is a sort of preparation for the ending of Malcolm X's story, the author is currently referring to him changing his thinking later on in life and it seems a little convenient he is going into a new direction just before he died... Maybe that's what really happened, I don't know enough about it to tell, but if this had been fiction I would've considered it contrived. :D Anyway, it was an interesting book. It gave me a lot to think about. It's easy to read it and think "oh, that was a long time ago, things are different now", but I think that might be a little too optimistic. I especially enjoyed his stories about going to Mecca, I thought that was really interesting. Especially in the light of the current situation in the world, him becoming a Muslim is very interesting. I wonder what Malcolm X would've thought of todays' ideas about muslims.

It's a well written book, and I think it really gives you a good idea of who Malcolm X was and what he stood for, whether you agree with his viewpoints or not, and in that respect I think it's an interesting document of the time and gives you a sense of that period in history.
