This was passed on to me to book cross. I read another copy earlier this year and thought it was a good story, although frustrating and sad.
CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
And off it goes in the hands of Royal Mail all the way to CynthiaA as a bit of winter rabckery. Happy reading!

Arrived today. Thanks so much bookfrogster! A book from Edinburgh, the birthplace of Alexander Graham Bell, travelled to the Canadian town of Brantford, the adult home of Alexander Graham Bell. Perhaps when I'm done it I should take it to Inverness Canada, where AGB lived his elder years.
Thanks for the tip about the tissues. I'm a weeper by nature, so it'll come in handy I'm sure! I can't wait to delve in, it sounds delicious!

This book is heavier than it seems. It is, like much fiction about Ireland, deep dark and mysterious. But gracious. And generous. And lyrical. The story is told in two voices and the author leads us to a point where we must ask ourselves whether or not the "truth" of a story matters if one's memories are different than that truth. In the end, the reader does learn Rosanne's truth. Or at least enough of it.
The chapter where Dr Grene, the psychiatrist, is telling about his grief after his wife dies is some of the most heart-rending and beautiful prose I have read. Lovely.
The pace is slow, but the reward is great.
