Started reading today and am loving it so far. Unlike other Auster novels and the protaganist is not a writer for once. Well done on the departure from the norm Mr Auster!

The best Paul Auster book i've read so far. The suspensful story of Jim Nashe and Jack Pozzi is brilliantly written and true to form, Auster gives very little away, while maintaining the pace of the story and creating a real page turner. The story took a different turn to the one I was expecting and I am pretty sure that the final message in this book is that you come into this life with nothing and go out with nothing regardless of what you do in between.
This book is now on offer as an international *1001 books* bookray.

Marvellous! I really enjoyed this. Loved the way the suspense built up at the end but was shocked by the last page. So not what I was expecting.
Thanks for sharing this Shovelmonkey1. I've already PMd the next on the list and have an address, so will get this moving on asap.

A fantastic book. Whilst I could see where the book was going at times, the end came as a surprise to me. I love a book with an ending that comes out of the blue. In parts the story was incredibly creepy. Two bits that stick out for me were the reference to work making you free and the collection of spectacles.
Will PM next in line but will not post until the new year.

There is something about "The Music of Chance" that makes the reader fall in love with Paul Auster. It could be the clarity of his prose and his real precision with language. It might be that he takes an idea, two men being forced to build a wall because they lost a poker game, and elevates it from the absurd to the brilliant. The novel speaks about chance - brief encounters with people and ideas. It is a well written novel.
Posting to "sintra" as soon as I get an address.

I really enjoyed this book! Although I'd seen the film adaptation before, the story and the end still had a great impact. There was an interesting parallel to my previous book,
The Third Policeman by Flann O'Brien - the question of the miniature model inside the miniature model.
Thanks a lot for sharing this book! It will be on its way again soon.
Edit, 23.03.: On its way to symphonicca now. Enjoy! :-)
This book is part of the 666 for 2011 Reading Challenge. It's my first book for North and Central America as the author is from the US where the book is set, too.

Great book! Plodding, exciting, simple, dedicated. A blind and somewhat dysfuntional commitment to commitment. Paul Auster is a great author--- there is a difference between writing and storytelling. He does both exceedingly well. Will contiue on my Auster odyssey. Thanks for allowing me the chance to add to the collection!
Will send along to the next reader when address is received.

Another great Auster. Slow yet compelling as the pace did not detract from the story for me. The suspense was great yet i found the ending too abrupt as there were far too many loose ends left lying around. Flower and Stone?? What happened there? And Pozzi too?
A great book through which will leave me thinking about it for a while yet. This was number 289 for me. Will get this into the post as soon as I can. Thanks for sharing Caz and for adding me so late in the day xx

***************************
Finished it last night. As usual with Paul Auster's books, it left med with this eerie, nightmarish feeling, but it's still such an awesome read - thanks to his excellent writing.
Yes, a lot of loose ends, but I've come to expect nothing less from this author.
On to the next person as soon as I recieve an address.

Sometimes I'm just very, very slow... I was well into the book before it dawned on me that I had read it before! To my excuse it is eight years ago. However, I enjoyed re-reading the book, even if I did remember the twists and turns. Auster is an author I never tire of, and now I know I can re-read his books with joy!
