My interest in Mr. Sandburg goes way back to when I first started High School since he was a native son in Illinois. When I "became" married [Honey would just love that phrase :) ] and settled in Rock Island, Galesburg is only a 1/2 hour drive south.
His home is a humble little cottage on 'the other side of the tracks' from down town Galesburg. It now houses many artifacts from his life and a nice garden area behind with a huge bolder which brings to mind his work "Rememberance Rock".
I'm a fog lover so his little poem about fog has stuck with me for decades even though I've mangled and paraphrased it to dickens-it goes like this:
Fog
The fog comes
on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over harbor and city
on silent haunches
and then moves on.
Carl Sandburg
Also, since I am a photographer, finding he married Edward Stiechen's sister, just showed me how truely small the world is.
From the back inside dust jacket: "Author of over fourty books, he twice won the Pulitzer Prize: for history, with his four-volume Abraham Lincoln: The War Years and for poetry, with Complete Poems.
