"Brought together here for the first time, Alan Bennett's four hugely admired short stories are playful, perceptive and immensely funny. All are modern classics."

This collection of short stories was selected as the Lass O'Gowrie book club read for December. I've borrowed this from KT-J's mother and will hand it back to her once we've had our meeting in January.

The Laying of the Hands is an interesting story, one that is both shocking and depressing but somehow enlightening at the same time. I must say I didn't feel any sympathy for any of the characters though.

The Clothes They Stood Up In is my favorite of these four stories; it would be a very interesting scenario to find yourself stripped of all the objects in your house; the emotions running through the main characters and the way they cope or not cope with everything that's happened to them is very well thought through by Bennett. A great story.

Father! Father! Burning Bright was my least favourite of his collection. I found some of the story interesting but I didn' care for any of the charcaters at all. Interesting take on the Father role though and worthy of a read.

The Lady In The Van amazing, a true bizarre story. Who could imagine such a thing? I enjoyed reading these snippets from a very interesting person.

Next Up: I'm going to finish Andy Fraser – From The Surgeon's Blade which I've been reading for a while in between other books.
