Dear NuKnees, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (2009)!I thought you may like this book as it is part literature, part Australian history. I have never read it, but it sounds intriguing. Please read it and decide to keep it or release it! Happy Reading, Geileis.

Journal Entry 2 by Nu-Knees from Knaresborough, North Yorkshire United Kingdom on Friday, December 25, 2009
Thank you very much for this Australian book, Geileis. I look forward to reading it, fully admitting that, to my shame, I know very little about your country's history. As it arrived on Christmas Eve, beautifully wrapped in pretty paper, it spent 24 hours under the Christmas Tree until I opened it with all my other presents this morning :-) Thank you - and Very Happy New Year to you and your family!

Journal Entry 3 by Nu-Knees at Knaresborough, North Yorkshire United Kingdom on Saturday, August 07, 2010
Everything anyone could possible want to know about the history and geography of Australia in the first half of the 19th century detailed in one handy volume! The title and subtitle, "How a tiny unknown ship opened Australia's north and west to development, dreams and disappointment", on the cover serve to obscure rather than give a clue to the wealth of information waiting within its pages. The Mermaid was only the first of many ships involved in the surveying the area. "As he'd done at many other campsites, King left a record of their visit, the characters 'HMC Mermaid, 1820' carved into a boab tree towards the northern end of (Careening) bay." (p79) A photograph of The Mermaid Tree (p81) shows "arguably Australia's oldest living graffiti" Thanks again, Geileis I'm not sure what I'll do with this next but I might save it to take to the Swindon Unconvention with me in October
