The lovely bones is a luminous and astonishing novel about life and death, forgiveness and vengeance, memory and forgetting. It is above all, a novel whch finds light in the darkest of places, and shows how even when that light seems to be utterly extinguished, it is still there, waiting to be rekindled,

Thanks Santa. I was naughty and I opened this a couple of days before Christmas and read it straight away. I really enjoyed it and now I can't wait to see the movie.

Picked up at our monthly BookCrossing meet held this time at King O'Malley's Pub in Civic, ACT. Thank you beli-jg.

I once did a quick read of this book in less than two hours. I thought the opening was great, but I did not think much of the rest of the book. But a two hour read is hardly a fair way to judge a book and I have heard so much praise in favour of this book that I thought I should give it a slower more respectful read. It will be interesting if when I read the book at normal speed I have a different opinion.

I tried to like this story and read it more slowly this time, but about a third of the way through the book I began to skim. I’m afraid I liked it no more this time reading it more carefully than I did when I read it fast several years ago. I disliked the perspective the story took. Were the observations from Susie’s point of view or not? I thought they were, but if they were the perspective was distorted. One moment it was her observation, the next it appeared to be someone else’s, as though looking at life through a distorted lens. Or was it supposed to be that way? If it was the effect was lost on me.
I also find it strange in these stories that keep the dead the age they died at. In other words, to be a good looking (young) ghost don’t grow old before you die, or you will be old for eternity.
The writing is okay, that’s the only reason I’m scoring it as high as four.
DEAD boring!!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I saw in a magazine there is a group of new statues in Civic called "Bush Pack", which are several dingoes (wild dogs). So I thought what a great place to release this book and hopped on my bicycle and pedalled to Civic and gave the dogs, "The Lovely Bones". May whoever finds this book enjoy it more than I did. This book divides readers, some really love it, others can't stand it.

While in Civic I briefly visited King O'Malley's Pub to check out the BC books left there and selected three. A member sometimes wild releases there. On the way back I passed the 'Bush Pack' and this book was gone. Happy reading.

This book is released:
In memory of Megi53’s mother
2011 Keep Them Moving Challenge
2011 Theme Releases
