CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
off into the wild . . . From the manga/graphic novel book box - back into the box it goes to continue traveling
Taken from the manga/graphic novel bookbox. I look forward to reading it!
I've never read a yaoi with so much action and adventure. SO MUCH ACTION AND ADVENTURE I had a hard time following it at times. It's pretty simple, in theory. Kyo is the previous leader of a ruthless group known as Madness. Izaya is a young priest who takes care of him when Kyo is in jail. That bit with their relationship is greap. But when an old enemy... friend... enemy-friend? shows up, the action heats up. And I think something must have gotten lost in translation somewhere, but I had a hard time following the story for all the action. Emotions get turned up to the maximum, old memories rise to the surface, and true feelings come out. But mostly people try to stab each other. A whole lot. And the things they think and say are pretty short and badly worded. I adore exclamation points, don't get me wrong. But every sentence ends in one!
So, yeah, I had a little trouble following the story. I definitely got the emotions and the basics. But I didn't always understand why a certain character was doing what he was doing. Ah well. It was a fine read, especially if you're looking for lots and lots of fight secquences. And lots of action!

This book came home in the yaoi bookbox today; many thanks! I hadn't heard of this one before, and look forward to reading it.
Later: Action! (Hee!) Yep, I found this one rather confusing, and quite terrifying in places (that face-cloak - {shudder!}), with the opportunity for lots more angst than the characters seem to indulge in.
I admit that I had issues with the whole "he's good - no, he's evil - no, he's good" thing, depending on whether or not Kyo's memories are active or suppressed; it's not an uncommon plot device, but poor wide-eyed Izaya doesn't quite seem to realize what he's playing with here. Then again, the situation lead up to a scene that made me laugh out loud, when Miyabi and Kyo are arguing and Izaya tries to stop them, saying "the real Kyo-san is gentle and kind" - at which point both Miyabi and Kyou himself stop short and give a disbelieving "Huh???" Since Izaya only knew Kyo as an amnesiac prisoner, his touching faith seems more like stalkerish control at times, but he is so awfully cute that perhaps Kyo doesn't really mind.
As for the main plot, I have no idea what's going on, other than the basic "feud/conflicting loyalties/bloody past/lost memories" stuff, which seems to be laid on with a trowel here. But the steamy bits, and the squabbling and humor, do make up for a lot.
