Mailed this and forgot to make a release note... off to the USA!
Got to the mail today and it's raining rays! Added to the TBR stack - will get to it soon. I think no library books in February - only rays!
I don't know how this one got behind a couple of other rays, but it did. I will be starting it soon and will j/e again when started.
Starting it today & PM'g the next reader for her address
I noticed this had cliff notes in the bookstore, so I was getting worried. I did Wikipedia it - and read through THEIR version of cliff notes, which I think was helpful or I would have been lost in this book already. So far it's not as difficult a read as many "required reading" school books (which are the ones that usually need the cliff notes!)
It's been bumped up to the #1 commute read book.
Time traveling from the 1800's to King Arthur's time, describing the adventures of Hank Morgan. Much more humorous, wry and satirical than I expected, if you skip the soliloquies
Loved the "knights off to go "grailing" (to find the holy grail) - reminded me of monty Python type of humor.
Off to the UK now!

Enjoy!
Received in the post on Saturday - thanks for posting on NancyNova :) And thank you very much for the stickers and bookmark, time to go a-tagging me thinks!
I have a couple of bookrings to read before this (Last Breath by Michael Prescott from dastephan6 and To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis from chich) but will get to straight after these.
Haven't read any Mark Twain before so am looking forward to this as my only point of reference to the book is the Disney film of the sort of same name where an astronaut arrived in King Arthur's Court - hmmmm, wonder what the original author would have made of that!
No, sorry, I just can't get into this book at all, so rather than punish myself with keeping trying and holding the ring up, I will PM MKtiny for their addy and keep this one moving.
Apologies Hayes13, it appears I've overstretched my own intellectual capacity...
10/04/10
MKtiny has asked to be skipped, so I will PM Oedde in Germany for their address.
Trying again!!
12/04/10
Oedde's address gratefully received and this book will be posted off sometime this week from either Brampton, Huntingdon or Godmanchester Post Office.
A travelling again :)
I received this book in the mail today and I already like the look of it, all yellow and a bit frail, different typefaces in the text...
I have to finish another book but I think I might start this one too and read them simultaneously.
It took me a while to get into it but it was worth the effort! What a satirical book. We humans are ridiculous, aren't we?
I can only recommend to the next readers that they read this through. It is very entertaining and at the same time thought-provoking. And the end fits well too, I think.

I haven't read anything by Mark Twain before, but I have Tom Sawyer & Huckleberry Finn lying somewhere on mt. TBR :p This one sounds interesting..time-travelling.. how can I resist :) Thanks Oedde for sending and Hayes13 for organizing the ray!

I took this with me on holiday and it took quite a while to finish, as it wasn't always easy to read (though I read in the afterword that it was sort of meant for children? :s). But once you get into it, it's quite funny sometimes. And it does keep you thinking.. I guess passage of time doesn't always mean improvement. Deep down people remain the same..

Well I kept at it while I could but then just had to give it up. It's not that the idea isn't a good one it's just that the way that idea develops is just too poor, at least for me.
There's a couple of good thoughts about society that Twain hammers home but the whole story is hanging by threads and I'm not even mentioning the fact that Twain describes the sixth century and its clothes like the fifteenth century with all the plumes and "spandex" thights. The story just kept losing my interest until I hed to quit after 200 pages.
I'll be sending it along when I get an address.
No answer from Lydiasbooks after several PM's. I'll keep it travelling.
