1953 Newbery Medal winner set in Peru.

I was slightly underwhelmed by the story, but I enjoyed the Jean Charlot illustrations: photo of the endpapers attached to this journal entry.

Edit 2012: I don't remember the cover of this copy looking like the cover image attached here, but on the other hand, it wasn't a paperback...
