Hmm, another item from that ever-popular BookCrossing category, NBR (never been read). I chose this book from JennyC1230's VBB because I was enthralled by Junger's "Perfect Storm." Unfortunately, I had just recently read Farley Mowat's "And No Birds Sang" and David Wroblewski's "Story of Edgar Sawtelle," both seriously depressing. So when I came across these stories of war, hostages, death & maiming, it was too much. The marginally less horrible chapter in the book was about firefighters being killed during a wildfire, because at least that one didn't involve other humans planning their deaths. Junger is a good enough journalist that he brings us vividly into his stories, and I'm just not up to that right now.
