FROM THE BACK OF THE BOOK:
One minute John Orr lies in silent agony, twisted within the wreckage of a terrible automobile accident. The next minute he's outside the mysterious Dark Station, approaching the nervous mares hitched to a strange black carriage that will ultimately fly him to an extraordinary place called The Bridge. His is a fantastic journey of the real and the unreal in which John Orr must make the most important decision of his life - and his death.

This is my first Iain Banks book and it was fantastic! It felt like I was inside someone else's seemingly endless and strange dream...I couldn't put the book down and read it in 2 days. The ending was excellent, which can't always be said of bizarre books. If you like to read something mind-bending every once in a while, this book is for you.

First off thanks for sending me this book time-traveler, I really enjoyed it! I almost gave up on it in the very beginning, the Dark Station chapter, but am I glad I read on. It was just the kind of strange, bitter-sweet, surreal book that I was looking for. This is the second book I've read by Mr. Banks and I enjoyed them both. The other was THE WASP FACTORY which was so remarkably different from this book. I'll have to look into more of his books.
