Treated myself to this new Mitch Albom - couldn't resist the title and description!

Journal Entry 2 by JDT from Pleasanton, California USA on Saturday, November 28, 2009
I really admire Mitch Albom's low-key, honest, unpretentious writing style, while touching on deep, hard-to-put-into-words insights and universals.

His relationship with the rabbi the last years of his life reminded me so much of Tuesdays with Morrie. But the addition of the parallel story of the African-American Christian Detroit pastor really added dimension!

I'm thinking most people of whatever faith (or perhaps no faith) with open hearts and minds would find this book thought-and spirit-provoking, powerful & disturbing while staying light, warm, and hopeful.

Received this book today from JDT and will get started ASAP. Thank-you so much for this bookring JDT as I have wanted to read this book very much. Will let you know my thoughts on it.

(I love it that we share the same street name although I must admit I would rather be on School St in California than NY especially on a cold and snowy day like today!!)

I could not put this book down once I started it! What a powerful story of faith no matter what you believe and don't believe in and the simple basic answers to most of our questions regarding faith put in a way that everyone can understand. I have to admit that parts did make me teary-eyed and I know that this book has inspired me in ways that I never thought possible. Thank-you so very much JDT for sharing this book and I will be buying this book for my personal collection as I loved it so much! I have PM next person on list and as soon as I have her address it will be on its next journey.

Just received this book today and am looking forward to reading it. It usually takes me a month to read one book unless it's quick, easy, and hard to put down. I'll post my thoughts when I'm finished.

Journal Entry 8 by passionatebklvr from Wynnewood, Pennsylvania USA on Monday, January 11, 2010
I just finished this book tonight and like the previous reader I couldn't put the book down. I took it with me when we went to dinner and everywhere. It was so good and moving. I really enjoyed that every section was short and enjoyable. I cried in the end because I can imagine having similar relationships with teachers. I never had what Mitch had with the Reb in my hebrew school days but could really identify with it. Also, at first I couldn't understand the connection between the Reb's story and the Pastor's but it all came together in the end and was very heartwarming. I now want to read all of Mitch Albom's books since this one was so good. Thank you JDT for sharing this! So glad I didn't miss it!

I'll be sending this on to dabercro shortly.

This book couldn't have arrived at a better time! A couple of days after its arrival we had our "feet knocked out from under us". Coincidence? I don't think so! This was the perfect read at the perfect time for me. A reminder of what is truly important and that there are others out there dealing with much worse.

I have read Albom's other books and this story is told in the same writing style. Entertaining, thought provoking, but never preachy.

Thanks JDT for sharing this book!
