Snow

still on tbr
I really wanted to like this book. Chose to read this weekend because we were expecting a blizzard and the title seemed title. Well, we didn't get a flake of snow, and I cannot seem to attach myself to this story. I am intrigued by Ka, the main character, but the back story of politics does not seem to propel the story forward. Given the size of my TBR pile, I am moving this one on. I know many others who have raved about this book, so I assume it is me...

Thanks, Wildflower. I'll give it a try and see what I think. This was a recent book club selection, so I finally was able to read it. It is not an easy read, although very worthwhile in that I learned so much about Turkey, its people, culture, religion and politics. I read it in September 2012.
Sending to a BCer with this book on her Wishlist. Enjoy!
Received this book via a RABCK a few months back. It took a while to get through it, but I found it worthwhile. I would add to the prior journal entries the fact that "Snow" is so pervasive in the story line that it is almost a character in its own right. Though a challenging read, it is fascinating to follow the saga of "Ka" as well as some of the other key characters. It makes me less eager than I was, to visit Turkey, due to the culture of violence and bigotry depicted in the story.
Thanks to wildflower37 and valpete for sharing Snow.

picked this up at our local meetup this evening - based on the description, setting in Turkey, and the disturbing theme of suicides among religious girls forbiddent to wear head scarves!
Thanks, Calif-Booklover! (fun seeing wildflower37 and valpete on the journal entries!)
