The Colour of Magic (Discworld)
9 journalers for this copy...
The Colour of Magic is Terry Pratchett's maiden voyage through the bizarre land of Discworld. His entertaining and witty series has grown to more than 20 books, and this is where it all starts--with the tourist Twoflower and his hapless wizard guide, Rincewind ("All wizards get like that... it's the quicksilver fumes. Rots their brains. Mushrooms, too."). Pratchett spoofs fantasy clichés--and everything else he can think of--while marshalling a profusion of characters through a madcap adventure.

First I must apologise for not journalling this sooner. I've been home for Christmas and was saving opening this for then. But I've been without a computer for two weeks so this is the first time I've been able to get online and say thank you!
Also thank you for the lovely bookmark you sent with it. It's currently being used as a marker in the minutes book for the committee I'm on!

Received the book, all's well and in good conditions!
I'm so happy for this opportunity. I received the second book from Discworld series and it's great to be able to read the first and start the Serie "the right way" :)
Thanks nediamnori87!
Read it!
I didn't like this book as much as I was expecting... maybe because everyone speak so, so, so well about Pratchett.
Any way... It was great to have the opportunity to read it.
Thanks again nediamnori87!

I'm looking forward to reading it soon!

The book probably caught me in the wrong mood, because I only started enjoying it towards the end. I didn't really like the puns about all the mundane things of our world. I've always been curious about Terry Pratchett's work, so thank you for providing me with this opportunity to read a Discworld book!
Sent it off to Lunar73 today!

Arrived safely yesterday. Thanks elmindreda. It will be my first Pratchett book so loooking forward to it.
CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
This was a good easy read. Although it did have me bamboozled at one stage. Although I enjoyed it, it didn't leave me wanting to rush out and read more of Terry Pratchetts books.
Thanks for sharing :)
Now on its way to leodog58.

I did not like this book as much as I thought I might, based on all the Discworld enthusiasm. I found that I could not connect with the characters at all. Oh well! Sending this on to Caramae, the next reader in line for the bookray...
Still have not heard from Caramae, so the book is not yet in the mail...will continue to attempt to contact reader Caramae!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
On the bookshelves in a box labeled "Free Books"...
I'd heard that there was a free book shelf at Deja Brew in Haymarket, Virginia, but had never visited. So yesterday, since I was planning on wandering around Loudoun County in search of historical markers anyway, I made it the first stop on my route. I must say, the coconut almond macaroons were absolutely delicious. I was in a bit of a hurry, and since the first couple books that caught my eye weren't BC-labeled, I ultimately grabbed this one and headed out. I didn't realize until just now that it had traveled so far! I read another copy a little while back, and this is what I had to say then:
The Discworld series is widely acclaimed by critics and readers alike. It's been compared to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, among other things. And you know, it's terribly clever. The idea of the Discworld itself, a plate of a world spinning on the back of a turtle and supported by elephants, is delightfully preposterous and is only enhanced by the collection of bizarre characters that inhabit it. I would have gobbled up this series with relish...about ten years ago. Now, while I found it to be a very light and fun read, I do not feel inspired to search out any of the other books.
I hope to continue this book's journey soon!

Wow - thanks for the book. I look forward to reading it! I'm a big fan of the Discworld, but somehow never read this one.
