I really enjoyed this book. In telling the life stories of Owen Meany and Johnny Wheelright the author also makes keen observations on history. The parallels between the Vietnam war and the Iran-Contra Affair brought up issues that the world is currently facing with the war in Iraq and the war on terrorism. I definitely recommend A Prayer for Owen Meany.

I mailed this book to someone. I can't remember their bookcrossing id at the moment but she lives in England. Money is a bit tight so I sent it surface mail. I'm sending it from British Columbia, canada so it will take from 2-5 weeks.

Just finished reading as part of my Big Read 100 challenge. What a wonderful book, It has all the elements that are my favourites. It made me laugh, made me cry, made me think and I loved each and every character in it I loved the story arcs where something mentioned early in the book which at the time appears to be inconsequential turns out to be of huge importance and all the side stories of his search for his father, his mother’s death and her secret life and the eccentricities of his grandmother don’t impede on the main thread in anyway whilst allowing you to gain a much greater understanding of both Johnny and Owen. This has just become my new number one!

Promised to bectabex.

i finished this ages ago, and completely forgot to make a journal entry! so here it is- i was told it was very good, and my high expectations weren't dissapointed. loved the character of Owen Meany, the only thing that i remember dissapointing me was the outcome of who Johnny's father was! clearly an excellent book, if that's the only grumble i have...
