2 journalers for this copy...
My cousin left this copy at my house, after trying to read it and finding that he couldn't get past the third page. I tried twice and couldn't get past the third paragraph. But, since I admire Naipaul for his contribution to literature and the Indian experience, I sent along as part of the Intercultural VBB.
May it find more appreciative readers on its travels..

I chose this book from the Intercultural Virtual Bookbox. I'm a little intimidated by the previous journal entry, but we'll see how it goes!
Thanks, Shroffland!

Well, I have read it. I spent the first 50 or so pages waiting for the story to start, and then I realized that there is no real story. I kept reading, though, and came across some insights into writing which were interesting. The repetitive style was also rather hypnotic, and I wondered if the looping around and around would eventually lead somewhere. So I kept reading to the end, but I have to say that I read the last hundred or so pages quickly and I was relieved when it was done.
This book was very sad and had very little warmth in it. Judging from reviews, a lot of people have loved this book. Perhaps for me this is not the right time in my life to be reading such a bleak book.
