This is one of several books that I bought at the "10th Phoenix Association Giant Book Sale", a twice yearly very successful fund-raiser for abandoned and abused animals.
Peter Tremayne obviously has a very good knowledge of the history of the 7th century, especially that of Ireland, the various kingdoms of England and in this book the history of Rome and the Catholic Church of that time.
I have read before of the equal rights given to women in old Ireland and love Sister Fidelma's
Independent spirit, intelligence and quiet, dignified power. This is a good murder mystery set in a fascinating time and place.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
This is on cassiopaea's wish list. She was kind enough to send me a RABCK of a Chris Nickson book, so I was pleased to find I had a book she wants on my TBR shelves.
Thank you bluenosed. I haven't read a Sister Fidelma story for a long time, delighted to find this one waiting for me. Lovely to see you in Leeds. Hoping to see you again in Oxford.
Really enjoyed this read, only the second Sister Fidelma story I have read. I will now be on the look out for others in the series. I liked the change of location from Whitby to Rome, where next I wonder. And what of Sister Fidelma and and her Anglo-Saxon friend Brother Eadulf, will they meet to collaborate again in the future?
Jippy
The book could be freed from his cold grave (postbox) this morning.
Thanks to bluenoser who bought it for a good cause and to cassiopaeia who was so generous to sent it to me.
