I have just now been able to start this book. I am looking forward to reading and shall endeavor to read and send back out into the world quickly.
I thought it ironic that this was the quote on the page when as I selected this book to make this entry:
"To read fast is as bad as to eat in a hurry."

Nov 30: due to other books that have been on mount tbr longer, I have not been reading as much of this as I had hoped. I hope to finish at least one of these other books in the next couple days and then will concentrate on reading this one.
I learned a great deal about our food system in the US and some of it I am not sure I wanted to know. Like Fast Food Nation this book made me give serious thought to what I eat and how it is produced/grown. I would love to be able to buy all my food from the VA farm but am not sure that is likely to happen.
My favorite story about this book came from telling my SIL about the Industrial Corn section. We discussed it one night after the kids and my brother had gone to bed. The next day when we went out for dinner, I asked her what she was having and then my brain snapped in to place and I added obviously corn but in what form - my brother and nephew were confused but my SIL laughed heartily and said corn in the form of steak.
Bad week last week. I final got mailed today 1/10/11.

Thanks to everyone ahead of me!
Mailed to mihi yesterday.
Fascinating examination of the food industry and our eating habits - especially as concerns US eating habits.
Although I have discovered that while I love vegetables, after a few weeks I start craving meat and therefore have determined I am a genuine omnivore, I certainly am further impressed by the necessity of determining where our food comes from and how it is raised. The beginning was a wee bit of a slog, but I read a chapter or two a day and that was highly digestible. At times laugh aloud funny, but always thought-provoking, I am so glad to have read this book. Thanks for making it available!
I greatly appreciate having had the opportunity to read this - after having done so I promptly ordered a copy for our school library. Thanks for making this copy available!
The book arrived in Zagreb this morning. Yay! I've been really looking forward to this one. It's still unavailable in the libraries here and I didn't want to buy it before reading it, though I do have a sneaking suspicion I'll buy it as soon as I'm through with this copy. :)
Thanks, penelopewanders and everyone else, for sending the book on, and thanks SqueakyChu for organizing this bookray and sharing your copy with us.
Though I'm currently a bit swamped with work, I am ringless and rayless at the moment so I'll start reading the book right away.
Still reading this one. Things have been a bit hectic workwise the past several months so my book-reading has been pushed down to a minimum. This being a proper book, for which one needs to actually activate the brain, I am only on page 33 (of about 400). I will keep the book for another week, and if by then I haven't finished, I will be sending it on and acquiring a copy for myself via an internet book store, as it really is a fascinating read. No sense in keeping others waiting, as it seems there won't be a lull in my workload in the foreseeable future.
PMing the next in line for the address.
Edit: October 22, 2011
Hayes13 has received a copy since signing up, now contacting next in line.

Got synical's address.
Thank you for allowing me to keep the book longer, till I finish it, SqueakyChu, I'll see how things go and will decide at the end of next week if I'll be keeping it or sending it on.
Thank you, SqueakyChu, for letting me delay the book for a while.
In the week that I gave myself to decide if I'll keep reading it now or not, I read exactly 2 pages, so I am sending the book on after all. My workload will not be diminishing any time soon, so there really is no point in further delaying the book and keeping everybody on that list waiting.
It is a VERY interesting book and one I plan to finish reading eventually. I will be getting a copy for my permanent collection so that I can "educate" my friends and family. :)
Thank you for sharing!
Released 12 yrs ago (11/4/2011 UTC) at Zagreb: Donji grad (city centre), Zagreb City Croatia
CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
The book is now in the care of the Post Office, on its way to synical in Malaysia.
If you've read/seen Fast Food Nation, then perhaps the first part about big box farming might sound familiar to you. Things got better for me after that, especially the second half. Really thought provoking. Glad to have read it.
Book is travelling to Chile next, but as it's coming to the new year, it might take a while. Will mail it out as soon as I can get to a post office tomorrow.
