The Fugitive Queen (Ursula Blanchard Mystery at Queen Elizabeth I's Court)

6 stars: Enjoyed parts of it
This series is a fun romp, if full of historical inaccuracies. Our protagonist, Ursula Stannard, is dispatched by cousin Queen Elizabeth I, to go to the wild northern part of England, and find out if some of the people guarding Mary, Queen of Scots in her captivity, are loyal to Mary or to Elizabeth. Along the way Ursula stumbles into much crime and wildness, and of course her life is in danger multiple times.
This is a fun series to read, but don't expect anything even approaching reality!

Chose it from the array of books on the BookCrossing shelf at Panera Bread.
I read this book in spare moments during a recent move to a new home. It certainly provided a change of pace! This is my first Ursula Blanchard mystery, and I enjoyed it very much. I already was familiar with the time period, having read several of Jean Plaidy's novels set in Elizabethan times.
I left in on a bench just inside the front door and to the right. Wow, it sure is a lot harder to release books with this new format!
