Dead Until Dark (Southern Vampire Mysteries, book 1)
3 journalers for this copy...
This is the first book in a series of nine of the very successful vampire themed mysteries featuring protagonist 'Sookie Stackhouse'. Sookie is a waitress with an unusual gift where she can hear what other people are thinking. This makes her life difficult especially for developing any lasting romantic relationships.
Set in Louisiana where vampires reside amongst normal folk along comes Bill and Sookie falls for this tall , dark and handsome vampire. What makes Bill most appealing is that she cannot hear what he is thinking but having a vampire for a boyfriend is not ideal and what follows is a number of murders.......and she fears she maybe next!!
This was great fun reading and the television series 'True Blood' created by Allan Ball (Six Feet Under) for HBO is great viewing if you like these books.

Requested by KLL from the OZVBB. Posting in the next few days and on its way to Western Australia. Enjoy
Picked this up from the post office this morning. I have to say - it's one of the most beautifully wrapped books I've received in a long time - such a lovely blue package! I haven't read any of the Charlaine Harris novels - nor seen the series True blood, but I reckon this is a good place to start :-)
Thanks again to jeniwren for sending!

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
I think I rather enjoyed this! It took me a while to decide, though it was certainly easy to read from the start. I found some of the tropes a little hackneyed - Bill (and vampires) are so darn magnetic n all and we are told over and over!! I liked sookie's character - down to earth and sensible ( though this might be because I'm now reading undead and unpopular where Betsy is such an annoying ditz). Action certainly picked up to the end - was gripping. Not sure I'm ready to be sucked in to the rest of the series but I won't avoid them either.
Now leaving at the lilliblack obcz for someone else to enjoy...

Caught this one at Lilliblack cafe in Sydney Darlinghurst - thanks KLL - and gave it to my wife to read, then read it myself.
We have already seen season 1 of True Blood, and while it's pretty faithful to this book, it does add even more and handles itself with more professional panache.
This book was easy to read, a little clumsy in its execution, but a lot of fun.
