this one definitely looks appealing! might be one that creeps up the slope a bit instead of totally waiting it's turn~~
A great choice for this particular bookbox, as "Devil" is very much in the Hammett/Chandler vein, but with a very big twist~~the miliue is post WWII Watts!
from the cover:
Los Angeles, 1948; Easy Rawlins is a black war veteran just fired from his job at a defense plant. Easy is drinking in a friend's bar, wondering how he'll meet his mortage, when a white man in a linen suit walks in, offering good money if Easy will simply locate Miss Daphne Monet, a blonde beautyknown to frequent black jazz clubs.....
" [Mosley is[ a talented author with something vital to say about the distance between the black and white worlds, and with a dramatic way to say it."
---The New York Times
A very different book, for me, at least, and one I enjoyed. I'll be watching out for more Easy Rawlins mysteries~~
and cool cover art to boot!

The book arrived safely in Austin (as a part of the mystery VBB). Thank you Erishkigal. :)
Very Hammett/Chandler indeed, hard-boiled in the old-fashioned way. A nice holiday read too...

WILD RELEASE NOTES:
Reads that are finished while holidaying travel before I get back home, so Mosley will now continue its journey in Bodega... Let's see where it ends up next :)
Safe journey little book - I hope you'll make many new friends on your travels!
"Don't ever apologize to an author for buying something in paperback, or taking it out from a library (that's what they're there for. Use your library). Don't apologize to this author for buying books second hand, or getting them from bookcrossing or borrowing a friend's copy. What's important to me is that people read the books and enjoy them, and that, at some point in there, the book was bought by someone. And that people who like things, tell other people. The most important thing is that people read... "
