I think that I picked this up in the post room where I live, a little while ago.

I was really hoping to enjoy this. Not a genre I usually read - the last spy novel I read was probably also the first: a James Bond tale, many years ago. The story centres on a film producer in Paris during the Second World War. Quite a coincidence, I thought, that I am watching films made in the last few months of that war in a film club near where I live. The main character even takes the night train to Madrid, a train journey I'm familiar with. And there is much about Paris. But there is no real feeling of wartime. As for it being "a tense thriller of espionage" as claimed on the cover, well, it is definitely disappointing. I'd been hoping to give it to a friend, and now I'm not sure I will...

Well, I looked to see how other people rated this book and see that most people seem to have enjoyed it more than I did, so I went ahead and gave it to the friend I had in mind, today at a lunchtime choral concert.
