A very interesting cast of characters in an unusual paranormal tale. I enjoyed the book but not quite as much as The Time Travelers wife.

Wow, what an unusual book. I guess it's appropriate that I read this book on my Halloween weekend trip, as there are quite a few supernatural / paranormal elements to the story. This might be a challenge for a reader who isn't willing to believe (or doesn't like to read about) this type of thing.

The story was compelling, with interesting characters. I kept reading more because I wanted to know where it was going, rather than because I was enrapt with the story. I didn't think the ending was that great, mostly because I turned the last page and just thought "Huh? That was it?". I guess I just wonder what the whole point was. Maybe there wasn't one. I also wonder why the author chose so many quirky names, including characters named Edwina, Elspeth, and Marijke. I found them difficult to pronounce in my mind.

All in all, a very strange read. I enjoyed it somewhat, but it's definitely a step down from the author's first book, "The Time Traveler's Wife", which is one of my favorite books.

I've got the next reader's addy, so will send this along soon.
