Journal Entry 3 by thegoaliegirl from Spokane, Washington USA on Saturday, October 24, 2009
Time for a new travel narrative bookbox. There are a few rules: 1. Journal all books that you take out of the box 2. Add the same number of books that you remove from the box 3. Post in the journal that is with the box when sending and receiving the box, so I can track it 4. Please try to keep the bookbox for no longer than 2 weeks 5. If the box is starting to show signs of wear, please replace it 6. Media mail is perfectly acceptable, delivery confirmation is up to you 7. Box returns to me at the end 8. Travel narratives only: no guidebooks, phrasebooks, non-travel books 9. If you could list in your journal entry which books are you taking and which ones you are putting in, I would appreciate it. Like seeing what happens between I send the box and when I get it back. 10. Have fun! Box will go out after 4 or so people have signed up... Here is the list of books that are going in: *Africa Solo: A Journey Across the Sahara, Sahel and Congo by Kevin Kertscher *Alone on the Great Wall by William Lindesay *Fool's Paradise by Dale Walker *Hong Kong: Epilogue to an Empire by Jan Morris *In a Sunburned Country by Bill Bryson *In Bolivia by Eric Lawlor *In Siberia by Colin Thubron *Iron & Silk by Mark Salzman *Maiden Voyages: Writings of Women Travelers by Mary Morris *No Touch Monkey!: And Other Travel Lessons Learned Too Late by Ayun Halliday *Parrots' Wood by Erma J. Fisk *Round Ireland with a Fridge by Tony Hawks *Running the Amazon by Joe Kane *Solomon Time: Adventures in the South Pacific by Will Randall *The Great Railway Bazaar by Paul Theroux *The "Old Patagonian Express": By Train Through The Americas by Paul Theroux *I might make slight modifications to the list before it goes out Bookbox's sending order: 1. SKingList 2. Ri 3. GoryDetails 4. mrsjones 5. oi-reader 6. bibliotreker 7. debnance <- 8. tranq1 9. azuki -- box is here home to thegoaliegirl

Hooray! The box arrived! There look like some good ones in here! I'm just finishing up a travel book to add, but will need to work through one or two more while away for the holiday weekend. I hope not to hold on to this box very long before it is back on its traveling way. :)

Journal Entry 8 by Ri at Cincinnati, Ohio USA on Wednesday, July 21, 2010
So I was all set to mail this out this past weekend, when I realized I hadn't gotten mrsjones address yet. Oops. I pm'd her a couple days ago but haven't heard back. Perhaps she is on summer vacation and without internet for a bit? I just pm'd GoryDetails to get her address in case I don't hear back from mrsjones in the next day or two. Sorry for the holdup! ETA on 7/22: Turns out mrsjones is on vacation until 7/27, so this box is headed to GoryDetails. I am taking out: The Almond Blossom Appreciation Society Iron and Silk Travelling Tales The Gods Drink Whiskey No Touch Monkey I am adding: Slow Boats to China First We Quite Our Jobs: How One Work Driven Couple Got on the Road to a New Life Lonely Planet Unpacked Again: Travel Disaster Stories The Obsessive Traveller Seven Before Seventy: One Woman's Quest for the Seven Continents There were many more great books in the box that I already have on Mt TBR. Great box! Thanks, thegoaliegirl! I posted the box to GoryDetails on July 22. The DC# is 0310 0480 0000 8764 6524.

Journal Entry 9 by GoryDetails at Nashua, New Hampshire USA on Tuesday, July 27, 2010
The Travel bookbox arrived today - intact, though just barely, as it looks like someone's been jumping up and down on it {wry grin}; I'll find a new box for the next hop! This is a lovely choice for a bookbox journal; a mix of small and great Things To Be Thankful For, bringing back lovely memories as well as being thought-provoking. I'd add "Receiving a box of books in the mail" to the things-to-be-thankful-for! Later: I took out: Unpacked Again Maiden Voyages Parrots' Wood Round Ireland with a Fridge Honeymoon With My Brother In a Sunburned Country The Obsessive Traveller And I put in: Postcards From the Ledge Sea of Glory Life on the Mississippi Incidents of Travel in Yucatan, Vol. 1 Incidents of Travel in Yucatan, Vol. 2 Way Off the Road Forest Under My Fingernails

Journal Entry 24 by azuki at Miami, Florida USA on Tuesday, September 21, 2010
Box arrived a few days ago but I didn't get to sit down and do my BC journals till today. This round seems to have the best selection I've seen, and judging by how many books everybody trades, I'd say we all consider it an outstanding assortment. I haven't finished reading the books I plan to put in, so dear Goaliegirl, please be patient for a few more weeks, and I promise it's worth the wait. Not to mention that I read a book only to discover, when journalling my comment, that it was registered by Goalie! Then I went looking around for other books and realized how hard it is to find a travelog that hasn't been through her hands!! LOL

Journal Entry 25 by azuki at Miami, Florida USA on Monday, October 18, 2010
Thanks to the Read-a-thon, I finished enough books to put into the box. As I want more fun for Goalie when she opens the box, I am not listing here the books I put in, but I've taken out: Running the Amazon Way off the Road Mediterranean Summer On Rue Tatin Seven Before Seventy Also put in two small picture books. I found them in the bio/memoir bookbox and removed them as they do not fit the theme (unless you consider the post-it note comments transforming the book into a memoir) but they would make perfect journal books for future boxes... talking of which, WHEN WILL THE NEXT ROUND START? I would also like to mention that on BookObsessed we will be having a Travelog Swap soon. Please join us for a very fun game! http://bookobsessed.com/topic/6640751
