This stopped by in the Cross Canada Book Box.
This looks like an interesting read, so I pulled it from the Cross-Canada bookbox. Thanks, Pooker3, for contributing it to the box.
This novel had been sitting on my shelves way too long, but I'm glad I finally got to it. American Woman is a fictionalized account of the Patty Hearst kidnapping, seen mostly through the point-of-view of Japanese American Jenny Shimada (based on Wendy Yoshimura, an associate of the kidnappers). Choi explores a number of themes, including radicalism, terrorism and racism as she examines the thoughts, feelings and actions of both the kidnappers and the victim.
This is an interesting interpretation of the Patty Hearst affair. The author gives an inside perspective of potential motives and drives of the perpetrators. A good read.
Back in my hands now. I will look for a new reader for this book.
