I'd recently discovered that my copy of Les Miserables was an abridged version - I'm listening to the unabridged version on audio, and found that there's a LOT more there {wry grin}. Earlier today I came across half of the unabridged version - volume 1 of 2, that is - at a secondhand bookstore, and I bought that in hopes of finding volume 2 someday, but when I saw this brand-shiny-new "only complete and unabridged paperback edition" - and with the logo from the marvelous musical on the cover, yet - AND costing a mere $7.95, I couldn't resist.

[The book's been adapted for film and TV many, many times; I've enjoyed a few of those, including the 1978 TV version, which featured Anthony Perkins as Inspector Javert. The 1935 version is of interest - the delicate-looking Fredric March seems miscast as Valjean, but Charles Laughton makes an implacable Javert - and a young John Carradine is surprising as Enjolras... My favorite Javert of all, though, is Philip Quast, who sang the role in the spectacular stage-musical version of the book.]

The TV Tropes page for the novel has lots of entertaining info.

[I just found this interesting web site with the Les Miserables Gallery - images of cover art and illustrations from several editions of the book. Some of them are pretty funny, as in the cover illustration that's described as "In which Cosette is rescued by Benjamin Franklin while an angry Bill Sykes looks on."]

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

I left this book propped up on a railing in the entrance of the wine and liquor store at about 5; hope the finder enjoys it! [Since there's a new film version of the musical out now, perhaps it'll be of special interest.]
