This was a great book! It's basically about a dysfunctional family but the story is told with a Chuck Palahuniak-like sense of humor so it was impossible to feel depressed about the characters. For me, there were some frustrating parts (ie., in the beginning when Sam didn't tell Anne Marie the truth), but I loved the surprises that get thrown in when you least expect it. I read it in 2 days, couldn't put it down.

Taken from the Bizarre Fiction Bookbox

My wife mrsjones and I were very excited to see this was being added to the Bizarre Fiction Bookbox. I can not remember where we read about it but we both have wanted to read it since then and liked The Ordinary White Boy.

Definitely a bizarre book. Lots of turns and twists and characters who are so "off" in strange ways. I couldn't understand the transformation in the parents from when Sam saw them last. They didn't seem like they could be the same people at all.

There were many things I liked about the book, but the thing I liked best were the letters. That plot twist is the thing that kept me reading. To me, the letters were the most bizarre thing of all.

I've read Brock Clarke's "The Ordinary White Boy" and liked it, too. I wish Clarke had been a writing teacher at the University of Cincinnati while I was there. Makes me want to go take his class.

I'll pass this along to my husband H-HEAD now.

I have to say that this book was not as good as The Ordinary White Boy. I could not get into the main character and found myself putting this down and picking up other books frequently. Of course mrsjones wanted to release it in the local authors bookbox so I had to. It was an interesting concept and I was excited to read the book. It just did not live up to my expectations.

mrsjones released it in the local author's book box.

I had high hopes for this book when reading the back of it. It started off well and the concept was great, but I really didn't like the ending. *SPOILER ALERT* I guess I didn't like how a character that was introduced at the very end was responsible for the criminal acts...plus it seemed like the author hurried the finish and threw alot at us at once. I may still check out other books by this author though.

I will pass this on to a family member and see if they want to read it.
