The Martian Chronicles

This story of the settlement of Mars (the Mars of canals and vanishing Martians) in many ways parallels the settlement of the New World by Europeans. It's a sequence of short stories arranged in chronological order. "There Will Come Soft Rains" haunted me for many years after I read this book as a teenager.
I bought this copy at a used bookstore in Greenfield Wisconsin. It's an older edition than the picture you see here - with an orange cover featuring Ray Bradbury's face in front of the face of the planet Mars.

I enjoyed rereading this book from the early days of my SiFi experience. I'm still looking for a story that I *thought* was called "Tall They Were and Golden Eyed" which I thought was in the Martian Chronicles but is, in fact, not. It was part of my (? don't remember) grade literature book and was probably the earliest SiFi story I ever read.
Release planned for Thursday, October 02, 2003 at Dining Room in The Mountain (Conference) Center, North Carolina USA.
Actually released on Friday, October 03, 2003, in the "Heritage room" where the evening social gatherings are held before dinner. Next day the book was not there, so I hope it surfaces here.
