Jane Goodall's groundbreaking book about chimpanzee society. The field studies at Gombe have been going on for 40 years now.
I know a few things about Jane Goodall:
(1) She wasn't rich but scrimped and saved to get to Africa.
(2) When she told Louis Leakey that she wanted to study chimpanzees, he said, "Get your appendix out." You can die of appendicitis in the bush. If she didn't do that, he'd know she wasn't serious about going to Africa. She went and got her appendix out.
(3) When she went, her mother went with her and was her support crew in the jungle.
