Picked this up cheaply at a used bookstore. Read it once but it has been a long time--- will read it again soon.

Forgot a lot about the details and story of this book, and so it was nice to reread it. I love Clara--- what a great character. The house is a character in and of itself as well. Trueba is such a diffcult character to like--- she manages to generate some redeeming qualities but they so often get knocked down again and you regret having opened a small place for him in your heart. I forgot how political and violent it gets at the end--- quite hard to read at times.

In general: vivid, magical, honest and dynamic--- very good book.
