Thie book won the Bancroft Prize and the Joan Kelly and John H. Dunning Prizes of the American Historical Association.

I learned so much about life in the United States shortly after the Revolutionary War was won. It was a slow read but so full of interesting information. The author did a superior job researching to make the diary itself more understandable and informative.
