9 out of 10

This is one of my most enjoyable read of the year, a mixture of travelogue, psychology, science and humor as the author search for the happiest place on Earth. His search takes him all over the world, from the Netherlands (where drugs and prositution are legal), to Bhutan (where they care more for Gross National Happiness than GNP), to Qatar (one of the richest country), to Moldvoa (the unhappiest country), to India (the land of many gurus) and other places.

The author's wit is sharp, his humor totally charming, and his observations insightful, making this travelogue a league above many others.

Sending to the Queen of Travelogs. Enjoy this book, which I think is among the best travel writings.

Sometimes I wonder why I skip over a book. I think in this case it was just up on a higher shelf because when I went to re-organize my books to make room for the ones that I just got in the last bookbox, there was this book. I really enjoyed this book. It was well written, highly enjoyable, lots of interesting glimpses into the places he visited. His time in India particually sticks out in my mind. I wish I'd read it sooner. No better way to start off a year than to read a good book. I hope I read many books that are as good (or almost) as this one during 2011. Thanks azuki for sending this. Will probably put this in my next travel narrative bookbox.
