Sky Burial is the true story of a Chinese woman's 30-year search through Tibet for news of her lost, presumed dead, husband. Xinran is working as a radio journalist on a women's programme when a listener calls in to tell her about Shuwen. Xinran travels hundreds of miles across China to interview her and, over two days, Shuwen opens her heart and reveals her tragic, scarcely imaginable life story. Xinran returns to her life and spends the subsequent 10 years trying to find Shuwen again, researching her story and writing this book--a homage to an ordinary woman's extraordinary life-long search for the truth.

I recently read Xinran's "The Good Women of China" and was deeply impressed by this author - so this is just brilliant!!! (The chocolate too, that goes without saying.) Thanks a lot, mafarrimond!

This is the touching, true story about the Tibetan odyssey of a Chinese woman trying to find her possibly dead husband. Xinran gives a wonderful portrait of an extraordinary woman and depicts life in Tibet with great detail. A story that will stay with me for a while. Highly recommendable!
Journal Entry 5 by ApoloniaX at East Asian VBB, A Bookbox -- Controlled Releases on Friday, July 16, 2010
Received this from ApoloniaX today, from the East Asian VBB. Looking forward to reading it. Thanks!
I really enjoyed this compelling story of a woman's decades-long search for her husband in Tibet. My 11-year-old enjoyed this novel too. Though the reading level is reasonable, there are some mature themes. I might not have given this to her, except that we were on vacation and she had already gone through all her own books. In the end, I'm glad she had read it, as we both learned a lot about Tibet.
I've passed this book onto a friend.
