From Inside Cover:

At turns shockingly fierce and surprisingly tender, "Goat" is a shattering memoir that graphically portrays the scarred emotional landscape of young men. Author Brad Land's story is one of heartbreak and loneliness, but also of bravery and hope in an increasingly brutal world.

Brad is driving two strangers home from a party when he realizes they are leading him to the middle of nowhere. Savagely beaten and left in the middle of the road, Brad survives. But as his physical injuries heal, his psychological wounds worsen. Desperate to belong, he follows his brother to Clemson University and pledges to the same fraternity. What he finds is not brotherhood and support, but alienation and more violence.

An astonishing debut novel, "Goat" is a raw story - all the more powerful for being true - that will linger in your memory.

I didn't dislike this book, I just didn't really care for it that much either. It's a quick read, being just over 200 pages in large print. The writing style took some getting used, especially not having quotation marks around dialogue. Otherwise, it was okay. I could empathize with Brad as a people pleaser, but didn't really have any other emotions. The beating is obviously terrible, but the writing doesn't make you feel any emotion for it. Or any of the events that happen. I wanted to feel more for Brad, but just couldn't. I wouldn't go out and recommend this book, but I also wouldn't discourage anyone from reading it either.
