How much fun! This wish list book arrived Saturday with this message attached:

To Secret Agent,

This is no ordinary RABCK! You have been selected to go on a secret mission as a part of Round Two of Mission: BookCrossing!

Your next task is to answer this question: Your next clue is waiting inside a planetarium near New York's Central Park. What is the name of this planetarium?

The answer is the location where further instructions await. Email [email protected] with the answer to this riddle in the subject line posthaste. The safety of the free reading world - and your "life" - is at stake!

Laughing! THIS they ask of a native New Yorker! The Librettos and I spent MANY wonderful Days at the Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium/Rose Center!

I've already sent the response to the "chief" via e-mail before I left for an overnight trip. Now I'm back and can make a proper journal entry. Thank you so much, fellow "agent" Releanna! Now, let's see what MY mission will be!

February 9, 2011: On the short list, which means it will finally be read soon, and offered as part of the "BROWSE OUR SHORT LIST RABCK Offer, Part 7"(Link)

From the author's website, www.shalomauslander.com

"... Foreskin's Lament is a scathing theological rant, a funny, oddly moving, coming-of-age memoir, and an irreverent meditation on family, marriage, and cultural identity. God may be a bit irritated by this book, but I loved it." -- Tom Perrotta, author of Little Children and The Abstinence Teacher

February 16, 2011: I am so thankful for Releanna sending me this book that I feel bad saying that I didn't love it. I actually BARELY liked it. The author is really a spoiled person who was a egocentric and disturbed child, trying to blame everyone and everything for his behavior and lack of self discipline. I think I might have liked it better if this was not a TRUE memoir, but rather a fictionalized novel, and if I didn't know MANY people who came from ultra religious and/or abusive backgrounds who grew up to be functional well balanced adults.

Some parts may seem offensive, but otherwise a quick read. SqueakyChu, Book is on its way to you tomorrow!

Hehe! I don't think I'll get offended. I read one chapter of this book before in a booklet of first chapters of newly published books. I've wishlisted the book since then. Thanks so much for releasing it, Releanna, and for sending it to me, Dove-i-libri.

The book arrived today with Bookcrossing stickers proudly announcing its affiliation as well as a beautiful BC label inside. Thanks so much to you both!

I started reading this book. I'm about 1 1/2 chapters into it but haven't yet decided if I like it or not...

I'm about a quarter of the way through this book and, despite its irreverent tone, I'm very intrigued by it. Enough so, that I sought to find out more about the author's background. Here's a fascinating interview with Shalom Auslander on National Public Radio.

Now, back to the book...

I finished the book and posted my review on LibraryThing.

Despite the outrageous blasphemy in this book, I liked it.
