According to copyright this was first published in 1959 and it can be a fascinating insight to how different the world was then. A woman is travelling through Greece alone, and gets involved in some strange dealings at Delphi. Part of the fun of reading Stewart is how evocative her descriptions are, and this is one of the best examples. Greece in the 1950s, when mass tourism was quite different than from what is now. The main plot and characters while interesting did not involved me nearly as much as the setting.
Released on Friday, June 20, 2003 at mailed to another bookcrosser in Lisboa, lisboa Portugal.
I have just mailed this to pikapolonica. I hope it arrives safely, they asked to me to leave the envelope opena nd tie it up with string. Very exotic.

The book arrived to Stockholm without any problems. Thank you very much, BlossomU! I was wondering why the string, but one journal entry above explains it. ;)
Update (24th July): Athens, 1950s. An English girl travelling around Greece coincidentaly ends up with a hired car for a man named Simon that she is supposed to drive from Athens to Delphi. She meets the challenge by taking the car there to this Simon, who is on a pilgrimage to his brother Michael's grave. Michael was killed during the WWII, by the Germans... or was he? The story is set into the wilds of the Parnasos massive over Delphi, linked to the struggle of Greek resistance forces during the WWII - this will be familiar to anyone who read Captian Corelli's Mandolin by Louis de Bernieres.
This book is one half of a double Mary Stewart bookray, with The Moonspinners. Here is the list of participants with a description of the rules of this double bookray.

Sent to Suskiin this morning. The bookray is on its way.
just arrived today in the mail, as part of a Mary Steward's bookray. I hope to read them as soon as possible and then they will travel to the next in the list.
I just enjoyed this story as much as the other by Mary Steward in the double bookray, plenty of adventures, some romantic background (too victorian type, no kisses, just hugs or around, but the bad ones sure will get a good lay around, ooops!) and the wonderful country of Greece as the place to happen all! Rignt now it was Delphi, rough mountains, caves, and some magic around. In a few days, both books, this and Moon-Spinners will be travelling to the next "harbour": Netherlands. I hope the next reader will enjoy both books as much as I did!
Mary Stewart bookray arrived today. Will start reading the books right now!!
Sent to 12 , in Porto Portugal.

Mailed to corvoaudaz at the end of June/beginning of July.
It was an enjoyable light read. Not much else to say really...set in a different time...different era, holidays seem to have been more personalised around 50 years ago.
Apologies to all concerned for the delay in journalling and sending it on.

This book has arrived safe and sound. I will read it as soon as I can.
I'm enjoying the book thoroughly but I'm having a major sense of deja vu. I've kept a list of everything I've read since 1987 but so far I haven't found My Brother Michael on that list. I'm almost done so I'll keep reading for now to see if my hunches pay off. I should be done in no more than a week. Apologies for the delay.
As with Moonspinners, Stewart back loads her plots. My Brother Michael doesn't really get started until about page 75 or so. All through the book I had the sense of having read this book before and I knew how it would end. Nonetheless it was still a very enjoyable book though perhaps not quite as engaging a story as Moonspinners. Readers who enjoy My Brother Michael would also enjoy The Marble Faun by Nathaniel Hawthorne.
