The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency

"Wayward daughters. Missing Husbands. Philandering partners. Curious conmen. If you've got a problem, and no one else can help you, then pay a visit to Precious Ramotswe, Botswana's only - and finest - female private detective. Her methods may not be conventional, and her manner not exactly Miss Marple, but she's got warmth, wit and canny intuition on her side, not to mention Mr J.L.B. Maketoni, the charming proprietor of Tlokweng Road Speedy Motors. And Precious is going to need them all as she sets out on the trail of a missing child, a case that tumbles our heroine into a hotbed of strange situations and more than a little danger . . . Delightfully different, THE NO.1 LADIES' DETECTIVE AGENCY offers a captivating glimpse of an unusual world." www.fantasticfiction.co.uk
I love this series. As I have such easy access to cheap second hand books I very rarely buy books new. These are the exception. My local bookshop calls me when the latest paperbook comes in and then I rush off to get it. Most of the time the book is finished within a day, I have also been known to finish it before getting home, having stopped in a coffee shop to get started right away.
They are quick and easy reads as they are written in a very simple style. To me Precious Ramotswe is a very charming, intelligent and likable character. She solves mysteries rather than crimes, doing so by observing the world around her and listening to what people say. They are books that leave me with a warm feeling (without being overly sentimental or slushy which I hate).
I have decided to share these books as a book spiral as I consider it a shame that such a delightful series just sits on my shelf unread by others.
1. The No.1 Ladies Detective Agency
2. Tears of the Giraffe
3. Morality for Beautiful Girls
4. The Kalahari Typing School for Men
5. The Full Cupboard of Life
6. In the Company of Cheerful Ladies
7. Blue Shoes and Happiness
8. The Good Husband of Zebra Drive
9. The Miracle at Speedy Motors
10. Tea Time for the Traditionally Built
11. The Double Comfort Safari Club
12. The Saturday Big Tent Party
13. The Limpopo Academy of Private Detection
14. The minor Adjustment Beauty Salon
They are all paperbacks of the same size: 12.5cm x 19.5cm x 1.5cm, 231g

I was quite curious about these books.
But at first I got a bit disapointed because the agency took care of mundane cases but then I became fond of Mma Precious Ramotswe, her life history, her way of thinking and most of all her posture in life :)
End up enjoing very much. I sorry it took me more then the 4weeks.
Thanks, bookowl1000, for sharing :)
30/10/2009 Going to Jonniboi. Hope you like it :)

I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to keep this for a while longer, I'm nearly finished, it's just that I've been sooooooo busy with College work lately that my time devoted to reading has gone down, I'm really sorry!

This one is finally on its way home, it should arrive in the next couple of weeks. Thanks for allowing it to visit with me.
The book has arrived home safely. I am glad everyone has been enjoying the series.
This book was waiting for me when I returned from uni! Thanks for organising the book ring and sending this book out to me :) I have a couple of other bookrings in front of this one, but hope to read it soon as I have heard good things about the series :)
I finished this book yesterday and wanted to read the next one straightaway, but unfortunately I have a few other bookrings ahead of that one. I found this really easy reading and I enjoyed the fact that each chapter felt a bit like a separate short story. Would definitely recommend to others and it didn't take me too long to read either. Thanks for sharing/organising this bookring!
