This little book attempts to convince the reader that despite the stereotypes, there is a lot of progress and good news coming out of Africa. However, although it does effectively convey that message, it is too brief and broad-brush to be that informative. In addition, since I just finished reading an intensive, comprehensive book on Sudan, I happen to know that she leaves a to be desired in her discussion of that country, and even downright incorrect. (Charlayne Hunter-Gault is a journalist, an American who now lives in South Africa. A scholar she is not.)
