This book has not been rated.

It is a paperback edition with 174 pages.

From its cover: The Rights of the Reader:
1. The right to read.
2. The right to skip.
3. The right not to finish a book.
4. The right to read it again.
5. The right to read anything.
6. The right to mistake a book for real life.
7. The right to read anywhere.
8. The right to dip in.
9. The right to read out loud.
10. The right to be quiet.

Update: 2009.09.05.
I love these "rights". I also love Quentin Blake's drawings, which is so gorgeous, make this book "living". It is a funny, humourous book, nevertheless I was amazed how much it is true. I never thought about my reading behaviour, I mean how I do it, or what it means for me. But I should say, these "rights" are typical for my present English reading style. Sometimes I got a book, that I can't read through, or just skip, leave pages out, or reread, but how many times I read aloud to myself, I simply love reading aloud.

Wonderful thoughts about reading. Thanks Pennac to summerize the reading topic.

9 out of 10

Wow! This book really wasn't what I expected! I expected a light-hearted exposition on our rights as readers. Instead I was met with an enlightening and gripping manifesto on the joys of reading, and most importantly, how to convey this love to our future generations. Simply put, it is our job to introduce books as friends to our children and then not stand over them asking and interrupting.

Furthermore, Pennac rightfully claims that reading first came from oral story-telling and that nobody is too old to be read to - this is where the joy of reading is born, so if you're looking to rekindle it, this is a good place to start.

A fantastic read that has certainly given me a lot to think about and the style is just brilliant. My fave part is probably the description of the child on his way to his first day of school.

Highly recommeded and thanks Hakkalina or giving me the opportunity to read this book!

I will be releasing this to the next in line, Amcamp asap :)

9 out of 10

A timely book just as I felt I was getting a bit bogged down with book rings which all seemed to arrive together. Reding was beginning to feel as if I were stealing time from other aspects of life. The book put everything into place. I MUST remember my rights!

Made me think of how important it is is to nurture the love of reading in my grandchildren who I hope will share my joy of reading.

The Rights of the Reader arrived safely with me today. :-) Looks a very nice read!! It is second on the list of ringbooks, so I should probably not take too long before starting it.
Thanks for sending over, mafarrimond and hakkalina: thank you so much for starting this ring :-) This is one of those books I would never have lent from the library.

Thanks, hakkalina for sharing this book. I found it very funny. Lots of recognizable scenes in it, both from my childhood as from the present time whem my son loses himself in a book :-)
It'll continue its travel today to helena100.
