This is a highly readable yet dark and gloomy story, set in Eastern Europe during the Cold War era. Occasionally the time and place shifts were somewhat confusing, but I finished the book in two days, which is good for me at the moment, given that most of my time and energy is consumed by my 11-month-old son :)
