This is a massive book. It tells the story of Ayla and Jondalar's journey back to his people, meeting various kin and strangers on the way. Unfortunately, the first part of the book is slow paced and, dare I say it, boring. It reads as a travalogue, with pages of descriptive prose on the animals, landscapes and people, with quite a bit of moralising from the author. It does take a bit of wading through. But once the travellers reach their first major stop, the story picks up again and then it's a rip-roaring run to the finish. As with the other books, I love the fact that this leads straight on from where the previous one finished, and I guess the next will do the same. Still enjoyable, if a bit long, and well worth reading.

Not sure where this has been for the last couple of years, but it reappeared at the obcz this week. Have brought it home, temporarily, to journal and will re-release soon.
