Here is an adventure story complete with such traditional ingredients as a lost tribe, sinister traces of a mighty former civilisation, and a hero, Roy Complain, who, purged by peril, comes eventually to find himself. But these classic ingredients have undergone a romantic metamorphosis: no tribe has ever been more thoroughly lost than the Greene tribe, and when Roy Complain and Priest Marapper set our for the fabled region called Forwards, they are heading for a series of shocks which will surprise the most hardened reader. For this is science fiction at its best, a realm where the logical happening is the unexpected one.

This has just arrived! Thanks to davemurray101 for sending it to me, along with a beautiful postcard! :)
I'm looking forward to it and I'll try to read it as quickly as possible!
Miki
I really enjoyed this novel. A Sci-Fi classic, and yet it felt quite new to me. I love the way the author built the information about the actual state of things little by little, letting the reader guess at first and explaining only later on, kind of de-costructing the world (and "culture") he showed at the beginning, just as the actual place they live in is being torn to pieces, along with their beliefs. The ending is a bit puzzling to me, I'm still not sure if I like it, it feels anti-climatic and kind of pessimistic.
Thank you so much for letting me read it!
This is starting its journey to TomHl tomorrow morning. Enjoy!
It cheered me on a chilly autumn day, to see this had arrived here. I'm in the middle of
The Legion of Space right now, but will read this next when I'm finished. So, thanks to dark-draco for launching the bookring, davemurray101 for re-launching it with a new copy, and Mikime for sending it to me from Roma.
This 1959 story is a classic generation ship sf story. It's not typical of what I have come to expect from Brian Aldiss, but rather a straight-forward adventure story of the discovery of on-ship reality. I did enjoy it.
I read this book on an airplane on the way to Cambodia. I am staying in Phnom Penh, and building houses in Oudong, Cambodia. The book came with me to the worksite one day.

Sent to Maryland via Media Mail to the next person in the bookring.
Received this on a cold and blustery day after Thanksgiving in Maryland. Thanks to all for including me in this ring. The bookrings really seem to be piling up - this is about the 4th I've received in the past couple of weeks. But I do hope to get to this soon.
I had never heard of this sci-fi novel before. As Tom said, this was pretty much a straight-forward adventure story that was at times gripping and always interesting. The climax was especially good that brought together everything and adds meaning to what came before.
Thanks again Dave for continuing this ring and Dark-Draco for instigating it. I have PMed Starflash (not Starfish) who asked to be included in the original forum where this was offered as a ring. Starfish is located in Florida and has no books registered. Will send this off as soon as I have an address.

A huge thank you to Dave for finding this and replacing my copy that got lost somewhere along the way! I really enjoyed this when I first read it, and may well read it again before it travels onwards. I'm so glad that you all liked it.

Decided that I have too many books hanging round to be read, so am sending this one off travelling as I will probably never get round to rereading it. Being sent to a fellow bookmoocher from Ireland.
