Gave in to temptation when tidying the bookshelf in coffee#1 today.

The story of Wilditch’s visit to his childhood home following bad news from the doctor has a magical feel to it, and is quite unlike other stories that I have read by Graham Greene.

His realisation that the lake he loved so much as a child, is in fact little more than a large pond is something that I think all adults have experienced at one time or another. I just loved his adventure with those who lived beneath the lake: reversion to childhood.

I enjoyed this book and it made me think back to my childhood adventures. I wonder how many of my memories are actually factually true.
